We are going to seek the Lord over this month. From Tuesday many people are Labels: Personal Sharing, Sermon
committing to a 21-day fast. This is the period of time Daniel fasted and defeated
the devil.
Daniel 10:12-14 Then he said, "Don't be afraid, Daniel. Since the first day you
began to pray for understanding and to humble yourself before your God, your
request has been heard in heaven. I have come in answer to your prayer. 13 But
for twenty-one days the spirit prince of the kingdom of Persia blocked my way.
Then Michael, one of the archangels, came to help me, and I left him there with
the spirit prince of the kingdom of Persia. 14 Now I am here to explain what
will happen to your people in the future, for this vision concerns a time yet to
come." NLT
WHY SEEK THE LORD?
1. Because we find what we seek. If we seek Him we will find Him. There is not a
greater discovery, not a greater win, not a greater joy than Jesus.
Jeremiah 29:13 and you will seek Me and find Me, when you search for Me with
all your heart.
Jesus says it’s worth selling all you have and buying an entire field just for the
pearl that is in the field.
2. So we find the destiny, reward and life God has planned for us. The answer to
every dream, every hope, every need, every problem is found in Him. Every best
reward, every blessing, comes becomes we seek the Lord.
Hebrews 11:6 But without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes
to God must believe that He is, and that He is a rewarder of those who diligently
seek Him. NKJV
God is the ‘I am’, therefore ‘He is’.
He is whatever he needs to be for you.
If you are sick, He is the Healer.
If you are in debt, He is the debt canceller.
If you are bound, He is the deliverer, He sets you free.
If you are down, He is the lifter of your head.
If you are lost then He is the finder.
If you are thirsty He is the fountain of life.
If you are hungry He is the bread of Life.
If you are in darkness He is the light of the world.
If you are a sinner He is the Lamb of God your sacrifice for sin, to cleanse you and
make you right with God.
3. Because there is a time when God draws near and makes himself available to be
found. He stirs our heart to seek him. We find the Spirit of prayer pours upon us
and we are meant to seek Him.
Jesus told his disciples to seek Him in Jerusalem and they did, for ten days then the
Spirit fell and the church was born.
Isaiah 55:6 Seek the LORD while He may be found, call upon Him while He is
near.
Hosea 10:12
Break up your fallow ground,
For it is time to seek the LORD ,
Till He comes and rains righteousness on you.
NKJV
4. We will understand mysteries in our lives. We get light. We get to know things
that are not revealed to our natural mind but are revealed by the power of the
Holy Spirit.
Proverbs 28:5 Evil men do not understand justice, but those who seek the LORD
understand all.
5. Those who seek the Lord prosper. Those who don’t, don’t.
2 Chronicles 26:5 He sought God in the days of Zechariah, who had
understanding in the visions of God; and as long as he sought the LORD, God
made him prosper.
(NKJ)
6. The ministry God has called you to will prosper if you will seek the Lord.
Jeremiah 10:21 For the shepherds have become dull-hearted, and have not
sought the LORD; therefore they shall not prosper, and all their flocks shall be
scattered. (NKJ)
7. Victory in Life.
2 Chronicles 12:14 And he did evil, because he did not prepare his heart to seek
the LORD. NKJV
Matthew 26:40-41 Then He came to the disciples and found them sleeping, and
said to Peter, "What! Could you not watch with Me one hour ? 41 Watch and
pray, lest you enter into temptation. The spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is
weak." NKJV
‘Watch’.
Watching is praying. Praying is watching.
Our eyes open when we pray. Our eyes close when we don’t. When your eyes are
closed you don’t walk forward, because you don’t know where you are going.
We get to be aware of what the real problem is. We get insight. We get to see what
is coming up ahead. We get to see the things God wants to show us.
‘With Me’
There is no other way to get with Jesus than to pray with Him. He intercedes for us
right now at the throne of God.
It’s impossible to get close to God without prayer.
We will find ourselves partnering with Christ when we pray.
One hour – This is like the basic requirement of Jesus for us to pray. It takes an
hour for us to break through all the things that are between God and us.
Temptation - Our ability to resist temptation will be equal to our prayer life. If our
prayer life does not match our level of calling then we will find our temptations
exceeding our spiritual strength to resist. It’s in prayer we discover victory over
everything that comes against us.
‘Spirit willing, flesh weak’. We strengthen our spiritual life when we pray. Our
spirit becomes courageous, brave and strong through prayer.
We grow weak through prayerlessness.
Most everything we receive from God begins in prayer and fasting.
Everything in the Kingdom of God is birthed through prayer. Everything in this
Kingdom is maintained through prayer. We gain breakthrough through prayer.
We develop a relationship with God through prayer. We bind demons and release
the power of the Holy Spirit through prayer. We activate angels through prayer.
We receive guidance through prayer. We release provision through prayer. We
receive dreams and visions through prayer. Our spirit breathes through prayer.
There’s many kinds of prayer. There’s warfare, intercession, thanksgiving,
worship, importunate prayer, devotional prayer, long prayer, quick prayer, united
prayer, agreement prayer, solo prayer, faith prayer, desperation prayer, seeking
God, quiet prayer, loud prayer.
1. Fasting is often at the beginning of a new day, a new beginning, the start of God
doing something new, something great.
Jesus began His Ministry with a forty day fast.
Moses birthed nation of Israel by ascending the Mt. Sinai and fasting in
The Presence of God for 40 days.
Elijah fasted for forty days as he journeyed to the mountain Horeb into an
encounter with God.
Paul began his ministry after he was saved, fasting for 3 days.
The door to the Gentiles was opened through the fasting and praying of Peter.
2. Fasting is the key to binding spiritual forces that can’t be beaten any other way.
Mark 9:28-29 And when He had come into the house, His disciples asked Him
privately, "Why could we not cast it out?"
29 So He said to them, "This kind can come out by nothing but prayer and
fasting."
NKJV
3. To add power to our prayers as the lives of successful ministers;
2 Corinthians 11:27 in weariness and toil, in sleeplessness often, in hunger and
thirst, in fastings often, in cold and nakedness
NKJV
Fasting makes you spiritually sharp. Our effectiveness is in our sharpness.
We sharpen our ability in life and in God through fasting and prayer.
4. Fasting changes circumstances. Daniel fasted for the fulfillment of God’s
promises through Jeremiah that he would restore the land after seventy
years in Babylon.
